Children in Grades K to 2 will learn to:
Explore and develop an appreciation for a variety of art forms Use art to explore and support project-based activities
Develop an aesthetic sense of color, shape, line and texture as they explore various art mediums Understand how to use art as a form of self-expression

Using various art forms to explore personal themes such as:

Thematic Art

Using art in various projects to explore academic themes, such as:

  • Social Studies

  • Life Sciences

Art Media

Engaging in:

  • Sculpture
  • Painting
  • 3-D Art
  • Crafts
  • Sketching
  • Knitting
  • Photography

 

Children in Grades 3 to 5 will learn to:
Develop an understanding of the visual arts and learn to communicate through the arts, recognizing that aesthetic choices are influenced by environment, experience and culture Explore and express the creative process common among arts disciplines: creating, practicing, performing, exhibiting and collaborating
Understand and apply the elements of art (line, texture, shapes, form) in original compositions Understand how to use art as a form of self-expression
By using these techniques:

Art Forms & Themes

Creating a balance of two and three dimensional art work, as well as observational and abstract art work. Some visual art projects will be integrated with and embedded in other academic disciplines, thereby deepening the academic learning.

Art Application

Using a variety of media to explore the basic principles of design such as the use of space, color, and composition.

Art Appreciation

 Engaging in a variety of exhibits they start to understand the variety and range of visual arts.

Exhibiting Work

Presenting their art to others once they have had time to reflect on their art work and refine it based on feedback and self-evaluation.
