Reading Specialist
KapKa Cooperative School is currently seeking a part-time Reading Specialist beginning immediately. A qualified person has a degree in Reading and has worked with primary aged children both individually and in small groups. The Reading Specialist may work both inside the classroom, as well as in a pull out model. They will agree to work two days each week for a total of 4 hours per week. Exact days and times will be agreed upon by the specialist and the teaching team. The Reading specialist and teachers will work together to define the best ways to support the reading program at the school. The Reading Specialist will be responsible for assessing reading/language skills, working with individual students, working with groups of students, planning with teachers, reporting progress to teachers and parents, along with occasional meetings with parents. Become an active participant in our hands-on, child-centered learning environment. We are searching for a skilled Reading Specialist interested in teaching the whole child by providing an effective, engaging, challenging, developmentally appropriate reading curriculum. Our program is unique because we embed national and state standards in a progressive project-based model. KapKa teachers integrate academic skills into a curriculum that is child focused, emergent and authentic to achieve our learning goals. Requirements:
- Experience tutoring Reading and Literacy skills with primary aged children
- Passion for progressive, multi-aged, emergent education
- Experience in administering Dibels, DRA, QRI and other diagnostic assessments for reading and literacy
- Clear understanding of the developmental stages of primary children and ability to connect well with children
- Endorsement as a Reading Specialist
