Foreign Language
| Children in Grades 3 to 5 will learn to: |
| Explore and develop an appreciation for a foreign language | Continuously build upon their spoken vocabulary and begin to explore the structure of the written language | Become familiar with other countries around the world through stories, song, games and research |
| By using these techniques: |
|
Connecting with other Cultures The experience of acquiring a foreign language broadens a child’s understanding of the world and allows them to make connections to other cultures |
Practicing Language Skills Opportunities to practice with teachers and children who are native speakers. By engaging in authentic experiences with native speakers our children develop a clear desire to communicate and use their newly acquired language skills |
|
Making Multi-disciplinary Connections By creating multidisciplinary connections our children have opportunities to deepen their foreign language aptitude as well as deepen their understanding of core concepts in social studies, art, music and language arts |
Project-based Activities Participating in a series of hands-on projects, as well as by visiting, and sharing ideas and activities with native speakers |
We do not offer foreign language education currently for our K-2 pod, but continue to explore opportunities for this in the future.
