Selection Read-out-louds, independent reading and guided reading groups our children practice reading various genres including poetry, fiction and nonfiction materials. Children learn to select books that are at their appropriate reading level |
Comprehension & Fluency |
| Children in Grades 3 to 5 will learn to: |
| Develop a passion for reading and a deep appreciation for our written and oral language | Explore a variety of literary genres from both fiction and nonfiction books and texts |
| Expand their skills in the use of multiple research materials and develop their media literacy | Demonstrate proficiency in their comprehension, fluency, decoding strategies and oral reading skills, and increase their sight word vocabulary |

Selection & Preference Exposure to a wide and varied selection of reading materials, our students expand their ability to choose books based on personal preference, topic, genre, theme or author |
Fluency & Purpose Using appropriate vocabulary and comprehension strategies by putting on plays, skits, puppet shows, reader’s theatres and poetry slams. Our program will provide them with exposure to a wide variety of literary genres and informational text |

Comprehension The children are able to demonstrate their comprehension skills by using evidence from the text to support their thinking and actively participating in discussions and literacy circles, make journal entries and create video commentaries |
Adapting & Growing They broaden and deepen their understanding of information and literary text. As the students reflect on their reading skills, they are able to adjust their comprehension and vocabulary strategies |
