Service Projects

Children in Grades K to 2 will learn to:
Commit to helping others and the environment by pursuing a variety of services projects that care for their local community and the world Develop compassion and empathy, self advocacy skills and advocacy for others Become independent and collaborative leaders as they will be develop and manage service projects with guidance from adult mentors
By using these techniques:

Serving Others

Engaging in a range of environmental, humanist, and community-building activities including:

  • Tree planting
  • Thanksgiving Outreach
  • Salmon release
  • Adopt a Street
  • Visits to seniors at homes
  • Notes to neighbors
  • Jog-a-thon
  • Coin drives

 

Children in Grades 3 to 5 will learn to:
Deepen their commitment to helping others - community and the environment Develop and manage various projects with support and guidance from adult mentors Revise and edit their writing and help others in the revision and editing process
By using these techniques:

Environment

  • Caring for local parks, streams and gardens
  • Growing food
  • Animal care & rescue

Community

  • Coin/Food/Toy/Clothing/Book drives
  • Making connections with Seniors
  • Volunteering at food banks and soup kitchens
  • Knit or quilt for Children's hospital

Social

  • Reading to younger children
  • Establish a sister school relationship
  • Build/supply a third world school
