Music and poetry are integral to the KapKa curriculum, and are used in many ways: to make personal connections to subject matter, for self expression, to bring the group together, and for sheer fun. The songs reflect topics of learning and our shared values.
The KapKa kids usually perform at the Northwest Folklife Festival in May and have recorded their fourth audio CD in 2011. Below you will find excerpts from this most recent CD.

I'm in My Hot Air Balloon I’m in my hot air balloon Come on in! Jump on board! Where are we going? Drifting on the wind!
I’m in my hot air balloon Way up high! Little tiny trees, little tiny mountains, From my pillow that flies! (or: “Great big sky”)
Jump in the basket Turn the heat on high Fill up the balloon We go up in the sky Birds flappin’ by Frogs hop below We are flying Feel the wind blow Lyrics by Jamie Shilling & the KapKa Kids |
Love Grows Love grows one by one and Two by two and four by four. Love grows ‘round in a circle, Comes back knockin’ at your front door!
Note by note we make a song Voice by voice we sing it. Choir by choir we fill up the world With the music that we bring it.
Love grows one by one and Two by two and four by four. Love grows ‘round in a circle, Comes back knockin’ at your front door!
