4th & 5th Grades

Our Trailblazers

Leaders, scholars, and good friends

The fourth- and fifth-grade years are a time of self-awareness, independence, and interdependence. Your child will start looking toward the world and their place in it. Children at this age group are full of bold ideas and big questions - and our inspiring teachers help shape your child’s curiosity and passion for learning into meaningful projects and adventures.

Our oldest learners internalize what it means to be a positive community member, a student leader, and an agent of change. Your child will learn through relationally focused, engaging lessons, and responsive supports. Building on the KapKa K-3 curriculum, learning dives deep to develop a strong academic foundation and the student skills that will take them into middle school and beyond - while solidifying their foundation of social-emotional skills and understanding to help them navigate it all successfully.

KapKa students are prepared for middle schools of all types and are known for being curious and confident students and community members.

KapKa supported my whole child. The social emotional learning, feeling confident in himself, the academics - the whole model and moving through it - my child has just thrived being here.
— Jeff, parent of a 5th grader and KapKa alum

Three threads woven through every day

Building and growing throughout the grades.

Student leadership

Trailblazers apply our ethos of kindness and inclusion and become student leaders and mentors to the younger grades, and take ownership of their place in the community.

Self-awareness

4th and 5th graders challenge themselves to make harder choices and think more critically and complexly - both in academics and in their social spheres.

Applied knowledge

Research, complex writing, digital literacy, and rigorous (and fun) math thinking - all in preparation for a confident transition to middle school.
